Tattygar Primary School

"Learning, Fun & Friendship since 1928"

About

Tattygar P.S is a small rural school situated on the outskirts of Lisbellaw village. The school first opened in 1928 and received an extension in 1990. The school is a single storey building with 3 classrooms, main hall, staff room, office and dining/assembly hall. The school has excellent outdoor space which includes a playing field and hard play area. The school is also serviced by a mobile classroom, indoor investigation area and storage unit at the rear and parking facilities at the front.

Tattygar P.S is a wholly child centred school and community of good practice, where our excellent staff collaborate to meet the aspirations and needs of our pupils through high quality learning and teaching. Central to our provision is the value placed in working in partnership with our parents, parish and community in order to meet the holistic needs of our pupils in this rapidly changing society. Our Catholic ethos, pastoral care and family atmosphere will permeate every aspect of school life to ensure the well-being, health and safety of the children.

In the past number of years the school has benefited from a major investment in our Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM), World Around US (WAU) and Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) resources. This investment came on the back of a number of factors, Using ICT has become a statutorily assessed area of the curriculum alongside Communication (Literacy) and Using Mathematics, feedback from staff and pupils who hoped for more exciting, hands on lessons which were connected to the children’s Topic learning.

As a result we have purchased a range of STEM resources to be used throughout the school in Topic based learning lessons, purchased 16 Ipads for the purpose of the children to use in their lessons across all areas of the curriculum, all staff have attended training on the effective use of Ipads in the curriculum. In recent years in pursuance of excellence in STEM and WAU we have received a number of high profile accolades, the Eco Schools’ Green Flag, Junior Industry Challenge Gold Award, Sentinus Bridge Construction Challenge (Best Display) and the Junior Entrepreneur Programme Award.

At Tattygar Primary School our vision is to create motivated ‘life-long’ learners through the use of ICT to enhance and extend learning and teaching across the whole curriculum. As ICT is continually developing and new technologies emerging, we as a school are always striving to give all pupils the skills to prepare them for a future in which ICT is an integral part of society.

Tattygar P.S enjoys excellent links with parents. The parents of Tattygar P.S provide support in various areas of school life, for example, new community initiatives, Reading Partnerships, After School Clubs, fundraising, providing transport to sporting events, attendance of school functions as well as supervisory assistance on out of school hours’ trips. The school prides itself on the positive nature of relationships within classrooms, and within and between groups which compose the school community.

The Tattygar P.S Parent’s Association (Friends Of Tattygar P.S) is further evidence of the excellent links within the community and how we all work together to support the learning in Tattygar Primary School. Over the last 5 years the Association has raised over £11,000 for the school and it was because of the PTA that we were able to purchase our own Tattygar P.S School Bus. This has proved an excellent asset when developing learning opportunities outside the classroom.

The school continues to forge lasting and beneficial relationships within the village community of Lisbellaw by working closely with Lisbellaw C.P.S which is our neighbouring primary school from the controlled sector. Both Staff work together planning and teaching collegially for the educational benefit of pupils from both schools as well as promoting positive cross community links within the village of Lisbellaw.
